Teacher’s Assistant Admits Selling Oxy At Fort Lee School For 7 Years

FORT LEE, N.J. -- A teacher's assistant admitted Tuesday that he sold tens of thousands of oxycodone pills for nearly seven years while he was working at a Fort Lee elementary school.

Gary Dimick, 33, of North Bergen "faces serious prison time for his actions," said Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan.

Dimick sold more than 25,000 30-milligram oxycodone tablets for $20 to $30 a tablet, Berman said, "on the grounds" of School No. 1 on Hoym Street, where records show he was employed.

Who the customers were wasn't specified.

“The addiction to pain killers is a nationwide epidemic and this individual sold more than 25,000 oxycodone tablets over seven years, preying on the vulnerabilities of others," said Angel M. Melendez, Special Agent-in-Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

"Dimick made his acts more egregious by selling these highly addictive pills on the school grounds where he was employed," Melendez said. "It is time that he face the consequences of his actions.”

The guilty plea negotiated with prosecutors technically exposes Dimick to up to 20 years in federal prison.

Actual sentences are usually shorter.

However, because there is no parole in the federal prison system, Dimick will have to serve nearly the entire sentence he is given. A sentencing date wasn't announced following Tuesday's plea hearing in Manhattan.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kiersten A. Fletcher and Robert B. Sobelman of the Southern District of New York.
