Slain Lakewood officer’s fiance speaks eloquently of devastating loss

The fiance of a slain Lakewood police officer issued a statement today, as donations for catching and prosecuting his cold-blooded killer pushed the reward to $130,000 and a “blue alert” dragnet stretched across several states for a man wanted for questioning in the point-blank shooting.

Kelly Walsifer, who was engaged to marry Lakewood P.O. Christopher Matlosz next year, issued a statement through the local PBA:

“I’m not sure of the words to describe my loss, but Chris was my best friend and soul mate. We did everything together. In the last four years, we both lived our life to the fullest. He was my life and my world. He made me laugh, he made others laugh and we have been surrounded by the best of friends and coworkers throughout our time together. He just lost his father and now it brings me some peace to know that he is with him.”

Law enforcement sources told CLIFFVIEW PILOT the primary suspect is Jahmell Crockam, 27, a confirmed member of the Bloods street gang who already was wanted on a warrant for weapons possession, which may account for the shooting. The husky Crockham — 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds — is obviously armed and considered extremely dangerous.

Matlosz, 27, of Toms River, was shot three times during a routine stop in a residential neighborhood around 4 o’clock Friday afternoon. The four-year veteran of the Ocean County department was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, where he was pronounced dead about a half-hour later.
