Prosecutor: Harrington Park Controller From Teaneck Embezzled $160,000

TEANECK, N.J. -- A Harrington Park company controller from Teaneck was fired and arrested after embezzling $160,000, authorities said.

Jennifer A. Smith, 32, first diverted $40,000 to herself between last September and this February, then droped $120,000 into her personal bank account in late January, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said Thursday.

Grewal’s Financial Crimes Unit arrested Smith on Tuesday after company officials alerted authorities, the prosecutor said.

She was charged with theft and computer theft and released pending a March 1 first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court.
