GLEN ROCK, N.J. – ( UPDATE ) A 75-year-old driver who was behind the wheel of a bus that struck a 15-year-old girl in Glen Rock earlier this month received a summons for failing to stop for a pedestrian, authorities said following an investigation.

Mandatory drug and alcohol testing by NJ Transit after the Maple Avenue crash at Rock Road proved negative, Police Chief Dean Ackermann said.

“An inspection of the bus found no defects and all equipment operating as intended,” Ackermann added.

The girl told police “her last memory was of crossing Rock Road from the south side heading towards the library” just after 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 9, the chief said. ”She has no recollection of seeing the bus until after she was struck.”

The driver “made a left turn from eastbound Rock Road onto northbound Maple Avenue,” Ackermann said. “He stated that he did not see the pedestrian until the left side of the bus made contact with her” in the crosswalk.

The girl was treated at the scene by EMTs and paramedics before the Glen Rock Volunteer Ambulance Corps took her to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, the chief said.

The driver “was also evaluated by EMTs on scene but declined further aid,” he said.

Members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit responded to assist, Ackerman said. Ridgewood police also responded to assist with traffic while the road was closed during the investigation, he said.

Detective James Calaski and P.O. Greg Carter were the lead investigators, the chief said.
