Charles was born May 2, 1983 in Manhattan and turns 33 Monday.

The actor moved to Teaneck with his family when he was in middle school and grew up in the home of composer Alan Silvestri.

He graduated from Teaneck High School in 2001 and got a B.A. from Carnegie Mellon University.

Charles is known for portraying Brian "Smash" Williams on the NBC sports-drama "Friday Night Lights," as well as Dr. Shane Ross on the ABC medical drama "Grey's Anatomy."

He also had major roles in the 2009 films "Toe To Toe" and "The Messenger."

His first name is based on Gaius Julius Caesar, as well as one of Jesus' early disciples. Charles, in fact, attended Drew University to pursue a degree in theology after his performance on "Friday Night Lights."
