Instead of paying $4.79 for a short stack, the company is asking customers to make a donation.

The goal is to raise $3.5 million for children battling critical illnesses, IHOP said.

The annual day has been a longstanding tradition for Maywood's Amber Redmond.

"I haven't missed a day since high school," said Redmond, 21, who ordered a short stack with strawberry syrup. She was joined by her Hackensack beau, Thomas Pierce.

Stop into any IHOP from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for a free stack.
