At Tuesday’s West Milford Board of Education meeting, the board rejected its superintendent’s recommendation to terminate Gaye Kish, the story says.

Kish, a driver for 21 years, phoned a friend to preemptively ask her to use her restroom, and then allowed the friend to watch the roughly 20 kids on the bus for the few minutes she needed for the pit stop, according to previous reports. Kish reported the incident herself.

The superintendent claimed that Kish was seen on video texting while driving, and board members in favor of terminating her indicated that the phone use was the issue, not the bathroom break, the story says.

Kish, who has been suspended since earlier this month, said she did not text, but scrolled though her contacts to make two calls to try to find a bathroom during her route, the story says.
