The Board of Education has approved the appointment of Emilio Jennette to serve as the Hawthorne School Interim Principal.

Spollen-LaRaia, a mom from Dumont, took the position in 2011.

"We have grown immensely as a school community with the programs, services, and materials we have at Hawthorne and I am proud of our accomplishments," she said.

"I have had the pleasure of working with incredible students, staff, and families during my tenure."

Jennette formerly served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, ESL supervisor and director of early childhood education.

Acting Superintendent Vincent McHale will begin the search process for a permanent principal after the school year is underway. The process will involve teachers and parents.
