That is the question Kanya Balkrishna posed to students at Ramapo College of New Jersey during the Mahwah college’s annual diversity convocation this week.

Balkrishna is the co-founder and president of The Future Project – described as a movement calling on young people to create the future of their dreams.

The initiative dispatches trained leaders into schools across the country and charges them with mobilizing students and staff to channel their passions into projects that impact their schools and communities.

“The Future Project is about making schools a place where students can discover their passions and create their own opportunities and successes,” Balkrishna said during her keynote address.

During his opening remarks, Ramapo President Peter P. Mercer compared Balkrishna to leaders on campus.

“A young person with a passion and an enthusiasm for positive social change, Ms. Balakrishna reminds me of many of our student leaders,” Mercer said.
