The northbound Nissan Altima was taking an exit ramp near the Teaneck border when it struck the guard rail at milepost 118.6 just before 6 p.m., Trooper Alejandro Goez said Monday morning.

"It then spun into the right lane, where it was struck by an International tractor-trailer," he said.

The Nissan's driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Teaneck firefighters had to remove the roof of the car to get at them, responders told Daily Voice Sunday night.

The tractor-trailer driver wasn't injured, Goez said.

Identifications of the victims awaited notification of next of kin.
