The resident said he tried walking away when 32-year-old Eric Brown demanded the phone Friday night in the area of Mildred Street and Vandelinda Avenue, near Holy Name Medical Center.

When the 6-foot-3-inch Brown began following him, the resident called police, Police Chief Robert A. Wilson told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

“The victim felt threatened and believed that [Brown] would attempt to take the phone, so he called us,” the chief said.

Within minutes, Officer Anthony Antinori spotted a man fitting the suspect’s description a few blocks away, near the corner of Cedar Lane and Queen Anne Road. The victim later identified him, Wilson said.

Brown, whose last address is in Bridgeton, is being held on $100,000 bail pending a Municipal Court hearing.
