Village police secured the area and notified area residents and business owners and summoned the Bergen County Sheriff's Bomb Squad, which inspected the package -- a traditional rectangular-shaped cardboard box -- and the mailbox, Lt. Joseph Rella said.

A little over 15 minutes later, the scene was cleared.
