Stranger found with pot in new Teaneck homeowners’ shed says he was hiding from woman

A West New York man told police he hid in the shed of some new Teaneck homeowners because a woman was chasing him — and ended up with more trouble after officers found that he’d hid more than an ounce of marijuana inside.

John Malagon, 18, remained held on $7,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail today after police called to the Madison Avenue home arrested him yesterday.

The residents told police they noticed that someone had shut the shed door and held tight to it when they tried to open it, Police Lt. Andrew McGurr told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

So they call police.

While they were waiting, they said, a woman with a knife came around yelling for Malagon, McGurr said.

As soon as she heard the police sirens, she ran, the homeowners said.

Malagon emerged when they arrived. Then officers found the pot, the lieutenant said.

They arrested him on charges of burglary, possession of marijuana and evidence tampering.

They described the woman as white, in her early 20s, heavyest, about 5-foot-7, with red dyed hair and wearing a white zippered sweater.

McGurr asked that anyone with information that could help the investigation call Teaneck police: (201) 837-2600.
