Passing Of Passaic Sheriff's Lieutenant Announced

PATERSON, N.J. – Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes on Thursday announced the death of Sheriff’s Lt. Timothy Carpenter, 49, of West Milford.

“On December 12, 2017, at approximately 6:00 pm, Mr. Carpenter was located inside his private motor vehicle in a wooded area of Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park,” Valdes wrote in an afternoon news release.

Carpenter “is believed to be the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound resulting in his death,” she added.

“At the time of his death, Mr. Carpenter was employed as a corrections officer with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office holding the rank of lieutenant,” Valdes wrote.

“The investigation remains ongoing and it is currently being handled by the New Jersey State Police and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office,” she added.
