"We explained that we do these jobs because we're lucky but we all still went to school," Deputy Chief Rob Guidetti told Daily Voice.
"We told them that if this is something they want to do, they have to stay on the straight and narrow."
Children reported at 8:50 a.m. sharp for lineup and a meet-and-greet. Everyone stood in a line and said the Pledge of Allegiance, and then were issued radios and patrol cars (no one drove them).
Next came a tour of police headquarters, where kids got to see where their parents worked.
Among other highlights were presentations from the motorcycle unit, SWAT team, traffic division and shooting range simulation.
The kids also got to listen to live 9-1-1 calls and saw how supervisors answered the phones and made decisions.
"It was a great experience for us," Guidetti said. "We've never done it before so we were happy to take the lead."
