5 Charged With Attempted Murder In Paterson Post-Party Gunfight

PATERSON, N.J. -- Paterson police seized several weapons and arrested five men -- including one from Lodi and three from Passaic County -- after an argument outside a late-night party turned into a gunfight that sent a victim to the hospital.

All five were charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses.

Things got physical outside the party on lower Main Street between Broadway and Memorial Drive around 4 a.m. Saturday, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.

"Weapons were produced, shots were fired, and the victim was struck," he said.

The 23-year-old victim grazed by a bullet in the head was treated at St. Joseph's Medical Center and released, Speziale said.

Soon after, Detective Sgt. Anthony Hyatt and Detectives Christopher Ravallese and Joehan Suarez of the city Ceasefire Unit identified five suspects.

Those arrested and charged:

  • Carlos Suarez-Montoya, 30, of Lodi;
  • Luis Gervasi, 23, of Clifton;
  • Jorge Nakano, 38, of Paterson;
  • Adolfo Zuloaga, 22, of Passaic;
  • Carlos Hinostroza, 39, of Newark.
