"He was a gift and a blessing to all who knew him," information from the funeral home noted.

He was a dedicated elementary school teacher of 37 years in the Teaneck School District. A lover of sunshine, he was often seen smiling while playing tennis in multiple leagues, walking his dogs throughout town or getting his hands dirty in the garden.

He enjoyed serving as a Eucharistic minister at St. Joseph's, and more recently, relished participating in the parish choir. But he was happiest spending time with his family, regardless of the activity. He loved deeply and will be sorely missed.

Giancola is survived by his wife, Elaine; children Russell and his wife Claire, and Thomas and his wife Melinda; grandchildren Isabel, Andrew, Emily, Katherine and Nicholas; and brother James and his wife Valerie.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 300 Elm St., in Oradell. The William G. Basralian Funeral Home, in Oradell, is assisting with arrangments.
