Abbasi has had the position since July, when former clerk Jaime Evelina resigned, and many see the appointment extension as a step toward officially naming him as the town's new clerk, said Northjersey.com.
According to town officials, Abbasi cannot be hired permanently until he receives his municipal clerk certification, added Northjersey.com.
If named to the postion, Abbasi’s salary would increase from $68,000 to $75,000 next year, said Northjersey.com.
