Ipp rediscovered the burial ground in 2004 and worked to form a coalition to have the town purchase the property and restore it over the last 12 years.

The area is now designated as a historic site by the borough.

"It feels wonderful to be recognized for my efforts," said Ipp, who has lived in Teaneck since 1960. "If I hadn't done anything, the property easily could have wound up getting sold for development.

"I look forward to this land being around for a long time and educating people about the history of Teaneck."
