Teaneck Fitness Trainer Participating In Female Empowerment Panel

TEANECK, N.J. — Teaneck native Karen Dennis will likely recall the story of two sisters -- one weighing 400 pounds and the other 500 -- who wanted to change their lives when she talks at a "Women for Women" event at the Hasbrouck Heights Hilton on Oct. 14.

“If you do not change, you are stuck and life will pass you by," Karen Dennis says.

“I felt their discomfort with their own bodies,” she said. “I asked what they aspired to do in their life. What is on their bucket list?

“One replied she would like to be able to travel without buying two seats, ride a bike, and get up without issues,” Dennis continued. “The other sister said to be able to ride a bike, jump rope. These are the little things we take for granted.”

Dennis, who operates a one-on-one training studio in Teaneck, will join four other female panelists aiming to inspire women to explore new experiences.

The night will begin with networking from 6 to 7:25 p.m., followed by the “Embracing the Unknown” panel discussion with Dennis and:

• Emily Holliman – CEO HackensackUMC at Pascack Valley• Lu Meshulam – Founder and CEO of LuMesh Cosmetics and Buenos Finds• Mariel Alvarado – Co-Founder of Lady Savant• Gariella Wilday – Founder of No Fuss Lunch

Tickets are $15 each in advance online and $25 at the door.

“To connect with one another, love each other, hold each other accountable — I think that is something that’s needed in this day and time,” Dennis told Daily Voice. “Having three daughters of my own, I teach them about the sense of togetherness and love and commitment of women to other women.”

Dennis, who has been a trainer for 23 years, recently authored “Fit & Fabulous.”

“As a mother of five and grandmother of two, embracing unknown and change is part of my vocabulary,” she said. “If you do not change, you are stuck and life will pass you by.”
