#MeToo: Teaneck Mom Raises Awareness About Sex Assault

That's exactly what millions of women across the U.S. are doing, many of them right here in Bergen and Passaic counties.

Actress Alyssa Milano is among the thousands of women across the U.S. raising awareness toward sex assault. Bergen and Passaic county women are taking action as well.

Imagine if all of the women who had been sexually harassed or assaulted wrote 'me too,' on social media, we might give some people a sense of the magnitude of the problem.

Some, like Ramsey mom Amanda Nokes, gave examples.

"When I was in 6th grade, my bestie Jessica and I were walking from my house to hers," said Nokes, formerly of Ridgewood.

"As we crossed one of the streets heading up Lincoln Ave., a man in a dark pink convertible Karmann-Ghia asked us for directions to the train station."

While giving him directions, she noticed Jessica had started running away — and that the man had dropped his pants and was pleasuring himself.

#MeToo comes after many people took to Twitter as a way to speak out against allegations made about Harvey Weinstein's alleged history of sexual assault — including some of his alleged victims.

Actress Alyssa Milano is among the thousands who shared the hashtag on Twitter, and made the following statement in a blog post last week:

"While I am sickened and angered over the disturbing accusations of Weinstein's sexual predation and abuse of power, I'm happy -- ecstatic even -- that it has opened up a dialogue around the the continued sexual harassment, objectification and degradation of women."

Claudia "CC" Collazo, formerly of Teaneck, shared the following:

"I was in 5th grade, a boy grabbed my butt. I chased him. Got him in a corner. Kicked him where the sun don't shine with wood tipped shoes. I promise you he never messed with me again, for that matter most people didn't.

"I was working at then Blockbuster. My 'boss' refused my days off, would make me stay later while my then-boyfriend would wait outside in the cold. He refused my vacation in his words "you think I'm giving you the day off to be with your boyfriend?" I told him you will, or I quit. He said good luck getting another job. I quit but I never reported him.

"Working in the financial and hotel industry, both dominated by men in the 90s...all I'll say is more than I'd like to mention.
