TEANECK, N.J. -- Happy Birthday to Teaneck’s Paul A. Volcker Jr.!
Volcker, who was born in Cape May but raised in Teaneck, turns 89 Monday, Sept. 5. His father was the township’s first municipal manager.
Volcker, an economist and a Democrat, was chairman of the Federal Reserve under President Jimmy Carter and President Ronald Reagan from 1979 to 1987. He also served as Undersecretary of the Treasury for Monetary Affairs in the early 1970s. He was also president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and an official of The Chase Manhattan Bank.
He was chairman of the Economic Recovery Advisory Board under President Barack Obama.
Educated at Princeton, Harvard and the London School of Economics, Volcker holds honorary degrees from many other educational institutions.
In his nonprofit activities, he has been chairman of the Trilateral Commission and chairman of the Trustees of the Group of 30.
