Touchscreens allow members to choose virtual classes — like zumba, yoga, pilates and barre — then follow along with instructors who appear on a huge screen.

Same goes for spinning. Want to cycle through France, South Africa or California? Choose your destination on the touchscreen, and your guided tour will appear on the big screen.

“We are cutting edge … this gym is smarter than we are,” joked Cheryl Ryan, area Group X manager for 24 Hour Fitness Ramsey.

The 38,832-square-foot club held its grand opening on Jan. 7.

“People were waiting for us to open,” said General Manager Roxanne Johnson.

Many members live or work in surrounding communities like Mahwah, Suffern and Saddle River, she said. Because the gym is open 24 hours a day, it has already drawn a lot of police officers, firefighters, doctors, nurses and others with odd work hours that make it “very difficult for them to have a healthy lifestyle,” Johnson said.

Those who work odd shifts are fans of the virtual classes – which can be utilized day or night, she said. “You can take them at 2 a.m. if you want.”

The club also features cardio, strength and functional training equipment, a turf area for training and a lap pool, spa and sauna.

It even has its own app — My24 — that allows members to sign up for classes with live instructors. Once someone signs up for a class via the app, it is automatically put on his or her smartphone calendar, then the member receives updates if there are changes to the class.

Johnson said all the technology makes it easier for people to incorporate working out into their lives.

“As busy as we are right now, the technology really helps,” she said.

Members of other 24 Hour Fitness clubs — like those in Saddle Brook, Hasbrouck Heights, Wayne, Paramus and Englewood Cliffs — are welcome to work out at the Ramsey location as well, Johnson said.

The gym is located at 150 Triangle 17 Plaza on NJ-17N. For more information, or to download a free guest pass, click HERE.
