TEANECK, N.J. — Cosmos Sklifas won't tell you how he makes his bagels.
All that his customers at Teaneck's Three Star Bagels need to know is that the bagels are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
"I love to come here," said customer Ron Patel, who for seven years has started his days with coffee and a bagel from Three Star. "The stuff here is much better than anyone else's."
Sklifas, a Greek immigrant from Closter, hasn't changed anything at the Cedar Lane shop — which opened in 1993 — since taking over in 2005.
"If it's not broken, don't fix it," he said. "Everyone leaves happy with a smile."
The store might be most well-known for its variety of cream cheeses such as Nutella, strawberry, cinnamon-walnut and several more.
"The weekends are crazy," the owner he said. "During the week, people mostly get plain or vegetable. We also do a lot of lox sandwiches."
Sklifas often makes himself a wholewheat bagel because "one bagel a day keeps the doctor away," he said.
