Teaneck IHOP Could Shutter In Mass Restaurant Closures

The parent company of Applebee's and IHOP will be closing about 160 of the restaurants, far more than what it had planned to shut down, some possibly in Bergen and Passaic counties.

About 105 to 135 Applebee's restaurants will close, up from the 40 to 60 that were slated for closure in the first quarter, DineEquity said late Thursday afternoon. And an estimated 20 to 25 IHOPs will be shuttered as well, an increase from about 18.

Specific restaurant closures and locations have not yet been announced.

Bergen and Passaic counties have Applebee's locations in Garfield, Hackensack, Northvale, Paramus and Totowa. IHOPs are located in Clifton, Paterson, Totowa, Englewood, Fair Lawn, Teaneck, Hasbrouck Heights and Ramsey.

With more than 2,000 restaurants in 50 states, Puerto Rico, Guam and 15 other countries around the world, Applebee's is one of the world's largest casual dining restaurant brands.

IHOP, the beloved pancake chain, has over 1,700 restaurants in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and around the world.

The move comes as more people are opting for quicker dining options rather than sit-down restaurants.
